About Us

Laura

Who is the Artist?

My name is Laura Martinez and I live in Redondo Beach, California.  I have always loved color and a bit of bling!  Since I was young, I have worn pendants and bought artwork “prints”.  My favorite is a big purple poppy by Georgia O’Keeffe.

My journey into Acrylic Paint Pouring began during Covid19.  When I was trying to stay safe and occupy my time when my son started college. Little did I think when I started “pouring” for fun that my new passion would turn into a business. I began making art on canvas, but then realized I can use paint skins to make jewelry, and bling for my 2 dogs.

I get my inspiration from color. I really enjoy trying different color combinations, especially for the jewelry and coasters. The movement of the colors can affect our emotions, there really is something therapeutic about mixing paint and combining colors.

Who is Mila?

Mila is our amazing rescue dog we adopted in 2013 for my son’s birthday.  Dogs are amazing because they love you unconditionally and you can talk to them about anything.  I had never had a dog before, so this was a new experience for me.  We then adopted our second dog Harley in 2018 for my daughter’s birthday.  The dogs have very different personalities, just like my kids.  Harley is super sweet and cuddly, where Mila is very protective, beautiful and smart.  Not to play favorites, but I chose to call this business “Mila’s Pieces”.  Sorry Harley (don’t tell her).

Vision And Mission Statement

To bring colorful and creative art to all who could use a little inspiration to brighten their day!

The canvases make an impact wherever they are hung.  The jewelry can be worn by moms like me, teenagers like my daughter, or pets like my dogs.

I would also like to be able to provide some education about the basics of learning how to pour paint.  We learn from our mistakes.  I would like to be able to share what I have learned so far.

I also plan to donate a portion of profits to help the dog rescue where we rescued both Mila and Harley.

Mila’s Pieces mission is to create unique handmade art pieces to inspire people of all ages.

What is Acrylic Paint Pouring?

Acrylic Paint Pouring is a fluid art technique used to create art by pouring acrylic paint onto a canvas or other vessel.  Acrylic paint is mixed with pouring mediums, to achieve various consistencies. I create my unique pieces utilizing various fluid art techniques such as tilting, spinning, swiping, and blowing. Different techniques create flowing patterns.  Fluid media allows you to utilize gravity and airflow, instead of brushes.

What are Acrylic Paint Skins?

When acrylic paint dries, it forms a flexible “skin” that it can be lifted and used in a variety of ways.

It is a great way to “reuse” your art materials, and have less waste.  My favorite skins are the ones I get from making coasters.  The paint just combines so nicely, and the skins are perfect for making jewelry!
